Their friendship starts with a life-threatening event. That day, the young BRITE (Ruffa Mae Quinto), DOLLY (Eugene Domingo), GAY (Pokwang) and RES (Candy Pangilinan) are riding on the same bus that nearly falls off the cliff. Thank God, they are miraculously saved and the four young girls vow to stay friends for life … and in death! Together, forever!
Several years after, we find the four still very much friends with each other in a lower middle-class barangay. Brite now owns a tutoring center, Dolly is a struggling piano teacher living with her good for nothing boyfriend, Gay is a separated MMDA and Res, is now a full-time housewife living with her two kids and perpetually bum husband, Totoy Bato (DJ Durano).
Life has been so hard that Brite suggests they work abroad to earn more money. The three of them agreed except for Res who is quite hesitant about the idea. But perhaps it is their fate to stick together. Res’ corrupt and “pasaway” parents and brothers are all locked up in a jail, so she has no options left but to join her friends to bail them out. Totoy Bato allows Res to go with her friends in one condition: that she goes back to him safely after six months of working abroad.
Baler is a tale of an overwhelming love of a young Filipina named FELIZA REYES (Anne
Curtis) and CELSO RESURRECION (Jericho Rosales), a Spanish-Filipino soldier, set in the backdrop of 1898 wartime action between a 57-man Rifle Batallion of the Spanish military and the Filipino forces, more popularly known as the Seige of Baler.
Feliza is the beautiful daughter of Nanding (Phillip Salvador), who’s a member of the
rebel movement. This is the very reason why she and Celso have to keep their love a secret.
Nanding, whose primary goal is to completely wipe out the Spanish soldiers stationed in the town of Baler, can never accept Celso, a half- Indio, half Spanish soldier who chooses to serve the enemies more than the Filipino insurgents who are struggling and fighting for their independence, their freedom.
Feliza is in love with the man her father despises but who and what could stop the two young people who are madly in love with each other?
The story revolves around Georgia, a Filipina patis (fish sauce) manufacturer and a mother who is finally reunited with her long-lost Filipino Australian daughter after 20 years of separation.
Christine can think of 101 reasons why her Australian dad must not marry her mom. The number one reason is that Georgia, her mother, disappeared from her life twenty years ago and never came back.
Now Christine is confused: Why does her father want to marry her mom, who had caused them so much heartache? When Christine goes to her mother’s town in Malabon, what starts out as an investigation turns out to be a hilarious yet touching journey for both mother and daughter.
Christine’s outrageous attempts to expose her mother’s flaws are all foiled, as Georgia also comes up with hysterical schemes to win her daughter’s love. Meanwhile, things get more riotous when Nanny Ninonu’s blind heart falls for Junjun, who is obviously gay and definitely shows no interest liking her back.
